We are delighted to invite you to the inaugural film night at Greville Smyth Community Bowls Club on Thursday 23rd November (Doors open 7pm, film starts 8pm). For the opening night to show off our new 106 inch screen, what better film to select than Crackerjack, the ‘best bowling film ever made’* (admittedly not a large amount of competition!). Although little known in the UK, it was the highest grossest film in Australia in the year of its release and received the following recommendation in the Sydney Morning Herald – ‘a good-natured comedy…in which there’s a nostalgia for our lost honour….this nostalgia for an Australia of mateship and communal spirit is the film’s main surprise’.
So please come along to support your community club, brush up on your bowling lingo, learn to differentiate your ‘flippers’ from your ‘pineapples’ and discover when the most famous game of bowls took place.
The film is open to non-members as well (although only members are allowed to purchase alcohol due to our licence) and all donations are gratefully received!
Hope to see you there.
