You don’t have to be retired to spend some time in the slow lane!

Bowls is a simple game to play and easy to understand, and we play in a wonderful setting. We would like everyone to have a go, irrespective of age or experience.

It is fun to play with friends, family, work colleagues or even strangers.  It takes a few minutes to get the hang of the rules, and there is always someone to show you how, or to play a game or two with you.

If you’ve played before at other bowls clubs, we hope you’ll appreciate our friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the informality of the club.  We don’t expect you to wear special clothes – come as you are – but make sure you’ve got flat shoes to protect the green.  Or play Aussie-style, in bare feet.  We keep our membership fees low, only £20 for the year, April to April, and green fees at £3. You can just turn up and play on any of our club sessions, which are as follows:

  • Bank Holiday Mondays: 3pm – 6pm ( occasionally till dusk)
  • Wednesday: 6pm – dusk
  • Thursday:6pm – dusk
  • Saturday: 2pm (sometimes 12:30pm) – 5pm
  • Sunday: 3pm – 6pm

Our vision to attract as many people into the game as possible is well reflected in our members: we have a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds in our club, who mix well together.

Our club is unusual in that the average age of our members is probably around 40-45, unlike many other clubs whose members are often much older.  Some people come to play and relax at the end of their working day.  Older people can come and play without the formality which is often a feature of more traditional bowling clubs. Children under 16 are free and we welcome families to come and play, and we have sets of smaller bowls suitable for children. However, we do ask that children and youngsters under 16 are accompanied by a responsible adult when they come to play.

You can bring your own bowls, or we have sets for you to use at the club.

Rules of the game are available for those who wish to play more competitively.  We are affiliated to Somerset Bowls Association and we can arrange coaching for those who want to improve their skills.
